Writing an Introduction
Part 1
One of the most influential paragraphs in an essay is the
introduction. It is the first thing your reader sees, and like a movie trailer,
the introduction gives highlights of all the best supporting details and/or
evidence that will appear in the essay. The introduction will help the reader
determine whether or not to read the whole essay.

Body Paragraph:
Deporting immigrants, especially
undocumented immigrants, is not the answer. Instead, they should be monitored
and redirected to the correct legal processes of becoming a citizen. According
to a study conducted in 2020 among Latino adolescents in Atlanta, Georgia, the
imprisonment or deportation of a family member was linked to dramatically
increased rates of suicidal ideation, alcohol use, and violence ( AIC para 3).
The American Immigration Council highlights that millions of children suffer
significant economic, developmental, emotional, and physical repercussions due
to the deportations of their parents and other family members (AIC para 1).
Following such deportations, the risk of these children suffering anxiety,
depression, and other mental health issues is very high. In addition, deporting
immigrants does not solve the underlying problem of why they initially came to
the U.S. Often, immigrants come to the United States because they are fleeing
violence or poverty in their home countries. Deporting them simply sends them
back to the dangerous or difficult situation they were trying to escape. To
conclude, it is clear that deporting immigrants is not the answer. Instead, we
should be redirecting them to the correct legal processes of becoming a
citizen. It would be a more efficient and humane solution.

Critique the Peer Introductions below:
Peer Introduction 1
In the early 1300s, Dante Alighieri finds himself exiled
from Florence and in the midst of a deep depression. It was during this time
that he began to craft an epic tale that is now known as The Divine Comedy, and
covers three volumes, Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. It is Inferno that has
become most widely recognized due to its religious ideals, mythological
references, and political controversy. Dante’s Inferno is the most fascinating
piece of poetry ever written, as it finds influence from a variety of sources,
paints a vivid picture of hell, and places you in the mind of the writer as he
navigates his exile and depression.
Peer Introduction 2:
Employers prefer a candidate who speaks more than one
language and is a quick thinker. People who learn to speak a new language
allows them to become an asset in their workplace. A 2021 article found that
learning a new language activates both language systems, which in turn helps
you think on your feet when problem solving and multitasking (Bergen). Learning to speak another language can increase
job prospects as candidates have a better chance at landing a job, there are
more job opportunities available, and candidates can be offered more pay.
