What is the TED Talk, “The Danger of a Single Story” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche about? How does she make her argument? What are the connections you can make between Adichie’s argument and the argument that America Ferrara makes in her TED Talk, “My Identity is my Superpower”? Write an essay in which you discuss these two talks and the connections between them. Make sure you explain the ideas for an audience who is unfamiliar with both talks.
Provide a summary of each talk. And after that, highlight some of the major claims each speaker makes. Use the QUOTATION SANDWICH METHOD (see Chapter 2 of the book They Say I Say)
First layer of bread: Set up/Intro
Meat – “they say” – Quote
Cheese – Re-iterate: “In other words,” or “What the author means here is…”
Final layer of bread: Your “I say” Response.
