English 301 Peer Review Directions: Arguing a Position essay:
To earn full points for the Peer Review all the directions need to be followed. In addition to the directions below, keep in mind grammar and punctuation. Also, use complete sentences.
Section A: Peer Review the student essays using the Critical Reading Guide on pages 199-200 of the Concise Guide to Writing. You do not need to do # 5 on page 200. There are also 4 short questions below in “Section “B.”
**Please use the numbers and Headings in the textbook on pages 199-200 and post them with your responses in the Comment Box for the peer review. **However, please make it clear where the questions end and YOUR responses begin (use spaces). If any of the directions are not followed there will be lost points (see “Approaches to Peer Review”).
**Your response Headings should look like what is in the book on pages 199-200 and posted below. However, make sure to read what each section asks and answer the questions in detail. **Give examples, praises, and critiques and answer any other questions asked.
**Do not write that there is nothing to critique. There is always room for improvement. Be specific about what needs to be addressed in your critiques. Your critiques will be related to the Basic Features. The Peer Review is not about liking/agreeing with the essay or not. It is about pointing out if the Basic Features are used well or not.
**In # 2 below “Assess how well the position is supported” and on page 199, you will not be underlining the thesis statement and main reasons in the peer review. Therefore, for “Summarize” in Section # 2 please write what the thesis and main reasons are in the comment box.
Like the other Peer Reviews, below is an example of posting the questions and responses (with specific examples) into the comment box for Peer Review from pages 199-200.
**Again, make sure to separate the questions from your response with a space so that I can see the ending of the question and the beginning of your response. I want to see the format and responses as indicated below:

Does the essay address the “audience,” those who may not agree with a neutral tone? In other words, the essay should not be “slamming” the reader. Be specific if you find a word or phrase that may need revision. You do not need to note all issues with tone and audience. You can also write where “audience focus” is particularly effective.
2. Is there a conclusion? How does it end? Do you get a sense of closure–is the “So What?” answered? See ” The Conclusion for Arguing a Position essays ” in week 11.
3. Is the essay in MLA or APA format? If you do not know, you can write: “I do not know because..” (Make sure to be specific).
4. Write if the in-text citations-or any sources in the body of the essay are used correctly or need work. Also note if the writer is using sources that are not credible (see the writing prompt).
