The midterm has three parts:
1 essay question worth 30 points
5 short answer questions worth 10 points each
1 webpage review question worth 20 points
Short answer questions should be a short paragraph. Each response should use specific details from lecture, Morris and the online readings and must make an argument.
The essay should be multiple paragraphs with several examples to support your clear argument. You will have two essay options. Pick only one.
The webpage review will ask you to go to a webpage and evaluate whether it gives accurate historical information.
You may take this exam at any time that works best for you between June 1 and June 7. There is no time limit.
I highly recommend you type your responses in Word or a Google doc or the equivalent and copy them into Canvas. In the possibility that Canvas crashes or does not post your exam, you can email me the responses your wrote in that document.
While you are free to use any resources you desire, your responses should be your own thoughts on the questions. Paraphrasing the first line of a website does not demonstrate to me that you are capable of analyzing historical sources and making historical arguments and thus will receive a bad score.

Question 720 pts
For this question you will evaluate the historical accuracy of a web page. Carefully read through the page. As you read the page, consider these questions:
What site is this page from? Who runs the site? Does the site have a mission? Is there a clear audience?
Who is the author? How is he or she identified? Is there detailed information about the author on the site? Is the author a historian or specialist in a related field?
Are experts referred to or quoted? When they are, is there a clear reference to the specific work cited? In other words, could you easily verify the information given?
How does the information on this page compare to the information in Morris or other materials from class (like my lectures)?
After considering these questions, write down your findings for the questions above and state whether you find the information on this page trustworthy. Remember, just because the page does not cite all its sources and is written by a non-historian does not make it inaccurate. The opposite is also true: just because a historian writes something and quotes others does not mean that the information is accurate.
