The Background
Solomon was the son of David and Bathsheba, and his kingship is presented in 1 Kings 3:1-11:43, 1 Chronicles 29-2 Chronicles 1-9. This period is both the highest glory of the nation of Israel and, at the same time, the lowest point of the monarchy. Solomon began his reign with an Israel of geographic proportions never again equaled. The weakness of the Solomonic administration led to the dissolution of the extensive Davidic empire.
